Joe Piscopia

Exhibition "2021"

Joe Piscopia has a growing discipline as an artist, living and working in Brooklyn, New York. He has exhibited at galleries in New York City, New jersey, and Troy, New York at Collar Works galleries Far x Wide show. Along with shows for Groundfloor Gallery both in their Online "Deep Blue See " show in tandem with @PCAA auction on Artsy. As well in Groundfloor's Gallery show "Priority Mail Biennial " Other online exhibits include FlatFile's " Art on the Wall " Parts 1 and 2. He also had work in "Et Tu Brut " , at Andrew Edlin Gallery, NYC. After receiving his BFA from The School of Visual Arts, he has explored and developed an art practice which was enhanced after working at The Metropolitan Museum of Art where he has exhibited in numerous staff shows.

The exploration of painting for me is a byproduct of making tangible thoughts and dreams I have or experienced. Many images come to me from unconsciously drawing and sketching in my daily practice. I also at times might have a word in mind that sums up what idea could work as subject matter. This literal premise gets turned around in early stages where it may become the basis of a final painting.

I use amorphous shapes which to are recorded or fleshed out with tone, light and shadow taking on surreal elements. As if the reality of life can be found in many variations and emotional moments passing in a single day, I see my work as illuminations of these moments of feelings or idea's which have or might have affected me. Underscoring this theme I attempt a documentation of images unreal as abstractions yet recognized as my inner vision.
